Located on the Atlantic side of St. Thomas, Magens Bay is a world-renowned haven with its protected white-sand beach extending almost three-quarters of a mile. The bay’s rich history echoes tales of Sir Francis Drake’s supposed hideout, though officially named Magens Bay after Governor Jacob Jorgenson Magens, whose family owned the land two centuries ago.
Today, the bay is administered by the Magens Bay Authority who provide essential services and amenities such as lifeguards, parking, and rentals, making it a cherished gathering place for both locals and tourists (for a nominal entry fee). This Caribbean jewel, recently crowned “Best Beach in the Caribbean” in the 2021 Travelers Choice Award, continues to enchant its visitors with its natural beauty and unwavering reputation as one of the ten most beautiful beaches globally.
